Pre-cognitive people, or Precogs, are one subset of Espers. They can predict the future, according to their skill levels.
1 Knows the future precisely. Conversations with them can be alarming. Especially when they respond before you've spoken. Exclusively hired by the military.
2 Can accurately tell the future within a range of time or space. Familiarity with the subject is not necessary.
3 Can accurately tell the future within a moderate range of time or space. Familiarity with the subject can improve accuracy.
4 Can accurately tell the future, but only for subjects they know.
5 Mostly tells the future accurately, for people they know. 90% accuracy rate or above, can speak in vagaries.
6 Sometimes tells the future accurately, exclusively for people they know. 70% accuracy rate and above, definitely speaks in vagaries
7 Rarely tells the future accurately, for their nearest and dearest. 50% accuracy rate and above, always speaks in vagaries
8 Only makes sense after the fact. The most useless of the precogs.
Anyone with precognitive abilities rated below Level 8 are called Foreboders, and are generally not reliable in their predictions.
There are tests for Esper genes that can warn parents about what they're in for. And there are special schools for Espers who are growing into their abilities.
